Fitzroy Square Regeneration Housing
A view of some of the new affordable housing built in Fitzroy Square, Fitzroy Street and High Street, Dysart. During the 1960’s the heart was ripped out of old Dysart by the demolition of much of the old housing, which was replaced by ugly award-winning flats. These have now been demolished and replaced by affordable housing in architectural styles in keeping with the forty-one remaining (protected) listed buildings remaining in the old town. Some stones were uncovered and these were thought to be a public weighing scales, or tron (see other photo posted). They have been put up in Fitzroy Square, one of the vanished streets, which has been re-instated. This photo shows the new housing, built by Muir Homes and the Fife Housing Association with the aid of grants from the Scottish Government and the Heritage Lottery fund.
